Top 10 apps every dietitian business needs to increase productivity

Having a business that is easily scaleable starts at the start. Using technology to automate your business processes will help your nutrition business grow.

Here at The Ambitious Dietitian we are big into developing systems from the get go to help your business grow. We have developed a list a few tools of the trade that we use day in and day out in some way to help keep us organised and simplify our (biz) lives so I thought I’d share our top 10 apps with you.

1. Trello

Trello is a productivity app which helps to organise projects and tasks aka just like an online list maker

WHY WE LOVE IT

It stops a million emails from flooding our inboxes and collates everything we do together whilst storing it in the cloud (ie it won’t get lost or deleted).  It’s pretty much just a three way chat between Daniel, myself and our clients but gives us the reassurance that if our computers crashed or we lost all our emails, we would still have everything.

2. Dropbox

Dropbox is well known for it’s cloud storage  which allows you to access your files from anywhere.

WHY WE LOVE IT

How else could we send our amazing design files to our clients? Suitable for communicating large files as well as cloud storage coz you know, computers that crash aren’t fun.

3. Canva

Canva is a free graphic design tool which uses a drag and drop feature to create images and publications, specifically, resources, marketing material and social media images.

WHY WE LOVE IT

We have been using Canva at Work recently and love, love, love how you can customise your branding in there and how easy it is to pick colours from your palette to design everything. It’s the perfect design tool for someone as OCD as me about things “matching”

4. Stripe

Stripe is an e-commerce company that facilitates payments online.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Secure payment that is reliable and safe. Need we say more? I love that unlike other competitor companies, you don’t need to do a manual transfer to your bank account.  There is also the ability to setting up periodic payments so we can be paid on time every time.

5. Pexels

Pexels is a database of free stock photos to allow creatives to create beautiful products and designs.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Let’s be honest, I’m a dietitian not a photographer and my photos at times can suck. I also don’t think everyone wants to be spammed with my babies all day everyday so we are lucky in this day and age to have access to free stock photos to use. I find Pexels has a great variety of images within the free library and I like their search tool.

6. Zoom

Zoom is a cloud based video communication which allows multiple people to join for video and audio conferencing, chat and webinars.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Just like Skype except you can do group calls and SEE everyone. Whoop Whoop. It also has the capacity to do group webinars or meetings which is great for your online masterclasses.

7. Halaxy

Halaxy is a free EHR system here in Australia that allows you to create appoitments, make appointments online, send reminders, take payments, have clients sign your policies and record your session notes all in one.

WHY WE LOVE IT

It allows automation and systemisation of your business processes so you can spend more time seeing the patients being a dietitian, and less time being a receptionist for your business.

8. Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite is the social media management tool designed for Facebook and Instagram. You can do things such as scheduling in posts and stories, responding to posts and other engagement, whilst also using their analytics feature and running paid ads.

WHY WE LOVE IT

It’s a great all in one platform that makes using Facebook and Instagram easily, accessible and helps you to automate posting in your nutrition business. I particularly like the analytics feature in terms of helping you to tweak your strategy based on the feedback from your statistics so you can constantly be upping your social media game and the ROI you are getting from it.

9. Mailerlite

Mailerlite is an email marketing tool and website builder used for businesses wanting to grow their email list and nurture their audience.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Did you know that those on your email list are your warmest audience? They are the ones that have actually expressed interest in working with you and want to know more about what that looks like.

Mailerlite allows you to gather the names and email addresses of those people and send regular emails to them showcasing your personality, value and expertise you can share with them and any offers that you have within your product suite.

10. Loom

Loom is a plug in extension for internet windows that allows you to record videos of yourself or of your computer screen.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Some people find they learn better when shown and hearing a familiar voice personalises your interactions. Loom allows me to visually show people what I am doing and speak to people from one person to another, rather than emailing or texting.

I also use Loom to record trainings as part of my program as both a dietitian business coach and a weight loss dietitian.

The number of tools and apps that are available to help dietitian and nutrition professionals systemise and automate the way they do business to save them time so they can be a practitioner and not an admin person is amazing. If you aren’t already using some of these apps but you can see value in them, pick one each week and start experimenting with it.
